Lid precisionAug 30, 2010 This cellar looks nice and works reasonably well, but when it arrived, the lid didn't fit properly on the glass below. I needed to bend the metal handle supporting the lid a little to get it to sit properly. It still doesn't fit perfectly, but it works ok. This summer has been very humid and the salt on the top can get a little crusty.
Ironic NameAug 04, 2010 For something called "Endurance" the lid broke off the first time I hand washed it. Very cheaply made in the hinge area with no way to repair the hinge pin. I'm mystified as to how it was attached in the first place. It's almost like it was glued. I couldn't find any solder or a weld joint.
To echo the some of the other reviews this is most definitely NOT the one used by Alton Brown. The lack of the vertical handle is a shortcoming when you try to open it one handed off of the counter.
NOT as pictured and cheap looking.Jul 08, 2010 I just received this salt server and the wife immediately shot it down as "looks cheap". A very noticeable difference in mine is that the clear rubber flange that rings the inside of the top has half a dozen small rubber anchors that push through holes on the top of the metal lid. While I'm sure this helps keep the rubber flange from falling out, the rubber nubs that are visable on the top and are NOT pictured on the online image look stupid. I am dissappointed because I am an Alton Brown lover and wanted to have the real McCoy. I'm returning it and will purchas an Olivewood salt cellar instead.
Very good for small sauces tooJun 21, 2010 Alton Brown or not, I like this salt server. I have been looking for a small container for my chili oil, complete with a spoon that fits in it, so I won't have to pull out extra spoons especially when I have already used that same spoon for mixing stuff and then realizing I want to add more chili oil. It was a long search, and some of the containers/jars are just too big when all I needed was something that could handle approximately a cup of whatever. This was what I was looking for.
The stainless steel casing was very elegant, and goes well with our predominantly white kitchen. It comes with a tiny spoon (perfect for pinches) that fits in the container without having a "slot" on the lid for which serving spoons usually protrude out of, which makes it ideal for my sauce, since I'd like to keep pests and most air out.
Of course this thing is not for pouring, at least as a whole, as the glass bowl is fitted loosely around the frame. If you need to pour its contents, remove the bowl from the steel frame first. And the lid doesn't "seal" the container, merely covering it up and protecting its contents with the silicone gasket.
Overall, it's not only for salt, it's also for sauces too! I am happy with my purchase.

PerfectJun 04, 2010 Big enough for adequate supply, lid closes well with gasket to keep moisture and dust out. Easy to clean, lid opens easily and will stay open if desired and comes with a cute little spoon for when your hands are wet. I can't think of anything more that it needs
