Harissa is a classic table accompaniment in Moroccan cooking and at the Moroccan table. Mustapha's Harissa is the gold standard and nothing sold in here in the USA can really compare. made mainly from Moroccan hot red chiles, olive oil, a touch of tomatoes, salt and spices. It is an essential accompaniment at the Moroccan table - almost as ubiquitous as olives. Mustapha's Harissa is served alongside couscous and tagines, it has an unforgettably intense, slow burn that will spice up any dish - each diner can stir it into the accompanying dish to suit personal taste. Its relatively salty quality takes to lifting the flavors of milder foods such as couscous. You can serve tiny dabs of harissa as a side sauce for grilled and roast meats and poultry, or use it as a general flavor booster for stews, soups and sauces. If you're looking to create an authentic Moroccan meal, this is an accompaniment.

5You won't be disappointed!Feb 10, 2009

This product was carefully packed and arrived very quickly. If you're looking for an authentic Moroccan accompaniment for your next meal, this is the only Harissa you need to buy. It is infinitely better than some of the Harissa products in a tube. I have had a jar open since just before Christmas (about 2 months, now) and I'm down to the last 3rd of a jar with NO spoiling, molding or drying out. The intense saltiness is nicely offset by the tanginess of the preserved lemon and the slow, subtle burn of the peppers adds a nice kick to sandwiches (especially roast beef) as it pairs nicely with mayonnaise as a condiment.

A little goes a long way, making the price a bit easier to justify for an alimentary escape now and then. Enjoy!

This item arrived in a timely manner and was well-packaged. I have been buying this item for awhile now..first time from this seller. It is excellent! It is the only one I would buy. You can use it for so many recipes. Do not buy one jar....do buy three!

5awesome - authentic taste - recommendedNov 07, 2006

I just returned from a trip to North Africa, and wanted to see if I could get this delicious appetizer locally.
It is not hot, not like a tabasco hot, just flavorful. Take a small shallow dish, put in some good quality olive oil, add a heaping teaspoon of the harissa. Serve with bread for dipping - in Tunisia they use baguettes.

5One to use, one to keep, one to give.Jun 30, 2008

A little goes a long way, but this is a great product for those who like their sauces hot enough to stand! Jars arrived quickly and well packed. Great flavor. Getting three jars let me keep one for future and have one to give to an appreciative quest. I'm anxious to see how long the harissa holds up in the refrigerator. So many salsas mold or get scummy before they can be used. Guess I'll just have to make recipes that call for this sauce as an ingredient. It's too good to waste.

5The real dealFeb 24, 2008

As a serious home chef, I do a lot of Moroccan cooking with recipes that call for harissa. This is a perfect, slightly smoky blend of spices that really enhance my tagines.
