Got the dish so that I could leave butter out (rather than in the frig). Liked the idea of it because I don't need that much soft butter; I just need a little when I need it. Dish is a little pricey but it is a very heavy duty glass and quite nice. Works great. I really like that it holds only half a stick of butter and the sides of the dish hold the butter in even if you accidentally leave it near the stove and completely melt the butter.
My wife chastised me for getting it ("leaving butter out is just wrong" she said) but I have noticed that she likes having the butter soft a lot. And given the niceness of the glass, it is allowed to be out on the counter.

I just love this little butter dish and would recommend to anyone. It holds a half stick of butter which is
perfect for my needs and doesn't take up a lot of space. I have very happy with my purchase!

Was looking for oblong version of this for full stick of butter. Got one at Target and is perfect butter dish. Keeps butter from getting messy. This is good for next to stove top for cooking. Still searching for full stick of butter size - brllllke mine.

I need this smaller version of butter dish. I usually put my butter in the fridge but it's nice to have soft butter on hand. I usually buy the butter in 1/4 cup or half stick so this one is perfect. It has a good weight on it, and even if the butter melts it wouldn't spill on the side. I had the butter out for 2 weeks (probably more) but the butter stayed a nice color, tasted like butter still too. Didn't look like it's been exposed to air. So yeah, this thing is perfect. Kinda expensive though and they didn't offer free shipping. Took me a long time to decide to buy it but what the heck, if you need it, you need it. So if you're looking for something like this, you could probably find a cheaper one that works just as well. Anyway, I didn't regret this purchase, I really like it.
